First and foremost, most of us have heard of the
term ‘vegetarian’, but what about Vegan/ Veganism?
According to Wikipedia:
" Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products. Ethical vegans reject the commodity status of animals and the use of animal products for any purpose, while dietary vegans (or strict vegetarians) eliminate them from their diet only. Another form, environmental veganism, rejects the use of animal products on the premise that the industrial practice is environmentally damaging and unsustainable.”
Regardless of religion or personal choice, being a
vegan means forgoing not only the meats but also all the eggs, milks, cheese
and basically all the dairy products. But how does a vegan still gets to enjoy
yummy food like everyone else’s does?
Many of my friends know that one of my favourite
hobby has got to be baking and pushing stuff into the oven, and that trait is
also significant in my brother too, but what’s so “special” about him is that
he is an ethical and environmental vegan himself, and the ingredients he uses
in his cooking can be very unique and different from mine. Starting this blog
with the objective of introducing good food or lifestyle products to people,
vegans are a group of people that I thought should benefit from all these yummy
food and products too, thus I’ve decided to incorporate vegan friendly recipes
and products so that fellow vegan or vegetarians out there can benefit too! And
of course feel free to comment or email me with your vegan friendly recipes and
products so that I can feature there and share it with other readers.
Ingredients
· - 150 grams plain flour (My brother likes
“Tipo 00” flour)
· - 3 grams instant yeast
· - A teaspoon of sugar or agave
nectar (sugar would be more practical because of price) [Optional]
· - A pinch of salt [Optional]
· - ½ teaspoon Olive Oil
· - 75 ml tepid water
Steps
(Estimated preparation time: 1hr)
1. Mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt, olive oil and tepid water in a bowl (used a clear plastic bag this time), following the order.
2. Knead with hands for approximately 10 minutes or until dough
becomes smooth and elastic. Additional flour may be required to stop dough from
sticking.

3. Lightly
coat exterior of dough with olive oil and put it into a plastic bag to allow
the dough to rise. Put the plastic bag in a warm area. (aprox. 15 mins minimum)
4. After
the dough has risen enough, roll/flip dough on a lightly floured surface to
desired shape, size and thickness.
If you have troubles flipping the dough, you can always refer to this Youtube video by Expert Village Watch. Learn. Do.
. 5. Transfer dough to a pizza crisper pan [My brother got his pizza crisper pan at John Little at S$9.90.]
6. Add
your preferred toppings. (My brother likes to sprinkle a herbs (etc Oregano,
Basil, Sage, Rose Mary, Savory, Thyme, Marjoram)
7. Bake
it for about 7 or until the base is crispy.
And there you have it, a vegan-friendly pizza that taste as great as normal pizza! Do try it and tell me if you like it! My brother have vegan cheese, sushi, chocolate etc vegan-friendly recipes so do comment or email me which are the recipes you would like to see! I'm not feeling very well after my Thailand trip thus my travelogue will be up slight later. Till then!
